Why does my 1½ years old male labrador dislike eating his meals so much? I've tried everything - the best quality kibbles, rice, roti and everything a dog can eat. I've mixed it up with lamb meat, chicken, chevon, eggs and even fish fillet. I've added food toppers, pumpkins and carrots too. He doesn't even stop and smell his meals. He is, however, VERY interested in eating fruits, snacks, treats and everything that comes in between. He even recently got his blood sample checked for illnesses (which were all fine, btw) and got prescribed appetite enhancers by the vet. Nothing seems to work. He even got dewormed recently and his anal glands expressed. He is very active (as usual) and doesn't compromise on his playtime or walks, just refuses to eat his meals. He had this phase a few months ago, but it got resolved on its own. This time, this phase has been stretching for a month. Please help 🙏🏼

Debasmita Banerjee Hi, I just updated my query. Yes, he walks twice daily and has dozens of toys to play fetch and tug with me and the other family members.

Does he get excercise regularly. For how much time do you walk him?

Shrusti P Hello. He's a very active dog. He walks for about 20 minutes in the morning and 40 minutes in the evening. Other than that, he plays tug and fetch with his toys almost all day.

Try one thing and tell me if it works: Take him for a walk of 1km atleast today afternoon...after he comes back provide him with water (10 mins after returning)...allow him to sleep...after 3-4 hours provide him his dinner...in small quantities...see if he eats or not...n report me in the night...you can call me or whatsapp on 9330388283

Debasmita Banerjee Thanks a lot! I tried that too, but it didn't work, unfortunately. He only ate about 80% of his meal, that too when I hand-fed him.

I think you should give him appetizer syrup with liver medicine...talk to your doctor once

Is the environment around him abnormal? Sometimes dogs refuse to eat because of some disturbing noises or smells around the feeding place. Please get that checked. Inappetance has a few causes, often gets resolved too.

Hi,. I had a similar problem with my pup up until a few weeks ago, i think mostly his problem was not getting enough exercise, scooby and iro's daily routines were pretty similar with the walks and activness and all. However he still needed more excercise to make him hungry we just started taking him to our farm every other day he plays their outside all day and is truly tired by the end of the day so eats well as well. Iro was prescribed appetite enhancers as a pup but they do not seem to work as well as i had hoped Also another thing that I came across was that Iro has some allergies because of the pollen from plants or something else i have been giving him allergia pills since a few weeks and that too has helped with his appetite even on the days he does not go to the farm. But since you said that he's blood work was normal that may not be the case for him. However mostly dogs avoid eating when something is bothering them on the inside In Iro's case it is atopic eczema/dermatits (dry skin) so he licks his legs until they turn red post pills his paws have healed and his appetite seems to be better than ever. He's gained 4kgs since then (previously stuck at 28kgs) Longer walks, swimming, or a ground that maybe isnt frequented by a lot people you could let him go off leash there, newer palces where he could get different stimulation these could help in case there's no underlying condition. Hope this helps✨
